WE HAVE AN ANCHOR THAT KEEPS THE SOUL STEADFAST AND SURE WHILE BILLOWS ROLL, FASTENED TO THE ROCK WHICH CANNOT MOVE, GROUNDED FIRM AND DEEP IN THE SAVIOR’S LOVE.
“Therefore, my brethren, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work, of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain in the Lord” (I Corinthians 15:58).
It WILL hold tight! It WILL stay in place! It won’t move! It is secure! It is an anchor! An anchor grips the bottom—provides a rigid point of support—secure and stable. We feel safe when the anchor is in place. Will your anchor hold in the storms of life? Will it stay in place till the storm passes by? Do you feel secure?
Life has all sorts of ways of frightening us. It is important for us to be secure, protected and not in harm’s way, as we move about from day to day. As a child of God it is not healthy to leave your house each day unless you have met with God. Then your security is in place, as you realize He is going ahead of you—nothing can disturb the anchor! All is well regardless of the waves that may come crashing down right in front of you. Your boat will stay the course—The Lord is at the helm!
Digging in and holding on tight—determination—can be a good thing allowing you to carry on with your plans. Once God is directing your life, being bold is what He expects from us. You do not have to hide in the cubbyhole area of your little boat—instead, ride the waves—enjoy the adventure. Let the chips fall where they will. You know who is in charge. All the affairs of your life are under His control.
You will meet up with ripples almost on a daily basis that will amplify the problems. These exasperating annoyances that start out small can become mountains of anxiety within hours. What will you do with them? Will they disturb the anchor? Will they arouse emotions? Will they get out of control? They don’t have to. Take the ripples and commit them over to the Lord’s keeping—His burden is light—never heavy. He can handle whatever it is and if you let Him, He will guide your life and the slight distractions will soon dissipate.
You can weather any storm that crosses your path in life if you make the wise choice of committing that violent storm to the Lord. Let Him be the heavy! It doesn’t matter how high the waves are, or how deep the water is—God is always able to carry you through. He will never leave you to drown unless you take matters into your own hands. The skies may darken around you, the waves may swell, the thunder may sound frightening, but your anchor is firm because it is grounded in Him. Nothing can separate you from the love of God. Absolutely nothing! You are the victor before the storm even hits. And if the waves come crashing down around you, hold your head up high—stay the course—He is the anchor of your life that will not let go! You are safe in the arms of Jesus!
Will your anchor hold in the storms of life,
When the clouds unfold their wings of strife?
When the strong tides lift, and the cables strain,
Will your anchor drift, or firm remain?
When your eyes behold through the gathering night
The city of gold, our harbor bright,
We shall anchor fast by the heavenly shore,
With the storms all past forevermore.
(hymn by Daniel B. Towner, 1850-1919)
